Welcome to our crazy family adventure, where we bought a home in North Carolina in the middle of nowhere. We moved from sunny San Diego, California where the weather is warm and cool to a place that is humid and just a hot mess..haha. My husband and I always wanted a fixer upper and I always wanted a Victorian/colonial home. So when we got word that my husband will be relocating for his job, we looked at many homes in so many counties/cities. To be honest, I was about to give up, but I really didn’t like the new modern homes and my husband and I wanted land and a sun room where we can share a cup of coffee in the a.m. (hot chocolate for my husband since he's weird and does not drink coffee) or a glass of wine at sunset. So needless to say, we just weren’t happy with what was shown to us. Now, don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with a modern home, it just wasn’t for us when it came to the craftsmanship and history that comes with an older Victorian home. Those that know me like my friends and family know that I love history. History is something that I can sit for hours on end reading and researching random things. It’s safe to say that I really wanted a home that captured what I and my husband wanted. So one day I decided to do some research and lord and behold I found this beautiful home in the town of Enfield, North Carolina. Now, this town is very small and is not your typical “oh we gotta check this place out,” there is really nothing to do out here and its super quiet! I mean I can hear the clock ticking and the birds chirping. We even have squirrels that just hang out with us outside and do not have a care in the world that we are here. So its safe to say that this town isn’t something to be excited about, until you read the history behind this town and how much it's fighting to keep its core values in place. We also checked the schools and crime rate, and everything you should look at when you are looking for a place to call home with your big ol family.
Now, I'm not here to bash Enfield, schooling is a D- and crime well we get mixed information about the crime life. When people ask us where we live now people cringe to the fact that we say Enfield. Some say it’s a great place to live and others say lock your door unless you want your stuff stolen. Again, I'm not here to bash this poor little town. When I told my husband about it he was in the “eh” kind of phase. But we took a chance and put our money where our mouth is. We've been living here for a couple of weeks now and honestly, we haven’t had any problems when it comes to crime, it's very quiet and people keep to themselves. We actually had a older man come to us and ask if we needed help with our yard, and god knows we did because that same day we finally had our movers come and deliver our personal belongings. If you are familiar with the military, it takes time for your things to get to your destination. So our property was getting a little wonky when it came to the grass and the flowers and of course I was a little upset because I didn’t like that. But this older gentlemen was nice enough to cut our yard. Thank god! Then a few weeks passed and our neighbor from across the street introduced herself to us and if anything I was having a bad day. If you follow our Facebook page we are going through some of the worst nightmares you can go through when moving into a fixer upper. However, she came over and she was a nicer older lady and pretty amazing too. Honestly, I can’t wait to finish this house so I can invite her over for some tea. But to end this crazy mess of a story, I just have to say that we are blessed to even have a chance to get a home like this. If you want to keep up with all of our updates to this beautiful home or even know the history of our home please follow us on Facebook or keep yourself updated here on our personal blogs!
I have many more stories to tell you about this place we call home. It’s an amazing little town. People don’t give it enough credit and I feel obligated to put this town back on the map! So please stay tuned because I have a lot to share from local business to history behind this little town.
